Uzbekistan Outsourcing Conference Berlin
About This Event
A high-level networking and knowledge-sharing event that brings together German and European companies with Uzbekistan's rapidly growing IT and outsourcing industry.
What came of it
More than 90 executives from German IT companies, investors and government representatives came together in Berlin to examine one question seriously: can Uzbekistan become Germany's strategic partner in IT? The conference was organised by the Berlin representative office together with the Ost-Ausschuss der Deutschen Wirtschaft.

The core of the programme was the panel discussion "From Idea to Reality: The Power of Uzbek Tech Talent", moderated by Michael Harms, CEO of the Ost-Ausschuss der Deutschen Wirtschaft.
Adrian Wolkersdorf of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Government Modernisation named the problem: Germany is short of 149,000 IT specialists. Dr Philipp Kleine Jäger of EPAM Systems put numbers to what that means in practice - EPAM already employs more than 700 specialists in Tashkent, growing by over 20 percent a year.
Robert Kirchner of Berlin Economics gave the independent assessment, Bastian Kroggel of Plug and Play Tech Center Germany the view on the startup ecosystem. The conference was supported by the Ministry of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Uzbek Embassy in Berlin.
After the panels the question in the room visibly shifted - from "Why Uzbekistan?" to "How do we start?". The Ost-Ausschuss reported on the event afterwards, and the weeks that followed brought enquiries from German companies wanting to examine the market concretely.
